Canadian Celebrity Realtors – Ep. 1

celebrealtors

Many celebrities and former athletes are no strangers when it comes to real estate. Aside from their own properties, many have entered into the industry in the next phase of their lives.  From developers to real estate agents, you hear big names every year making the swap.

So just to keep things light, I’ve decided to preview some random and famous Canadians on how they’d fare as a Realtor.  Who knows, it could happen.

Don Cherry

With Don, it’s all about the pageantry.  You should have no fears of your home not receiving enough public exposure.  His giant head-shot “for sale” signs would be scattered all throughout the neighbourhood.  Should you happen to miss those, the light from one of his lavish suits would surely act as a make-shift homing beacon.  When Don’s got a new listing everybody knows about it…he makes sure of that.

He’d also likely make for a very tough negotiator.  If you try to say something contrary to his beliefs, don’t be surprised to be cut-off mid-sentence…just ask Ron Maclean.  His egoist approach makes him next to impossible to work with, and he will talk over you every chance he gets. It’s essentially Don’s way, or the highway back to Minsk.

There are some major concerns, however.  His seeming inability to play nice with non-Canadians doesn’t jive well with a real estate market that is heavily affected by foreign investment.  The second concern is really a question, and that is, does he ever really know what he’s talking about?

Coco Rocha

Don’t take this diminutive Torontonian supermodel lightly, she’s a proven winner.  She’s used to being in high pressure situations with all eyes on her.  Her integrity has made her an outspoken critic against issues like eating disorders and heavily altered photos. She understands that a great home is perfect both inside and out.  Hate those misleading listing photos? Coco does too and hires a professional to take realistic portraits.

Her critics will likely point to her tendency to allow her emotions to get the better of her at times.  A bit of a crier, she’s almost sure to shed some tears when up against some of the biggest and toughest agents in the business.  That being said, maybe emotion and tears are just what the doctor ordered to knock the top producers off their game.

Laura Secord

People tend to show up to Laura’s open houses expecting delicious chocolate treats to snack on while they view the home.  It’s your funeral.  She’s a grizzled war heroine with little regard for sugary treats or things in excess.  She’s old school…real old school.  She doesn’t feel the need to own a smartphone or GPS, and has no time or inclination for the “interwebs”.

Her greatest asset is her steadfast loyalty and determination.  She will do everything in her power to make sure you find the perfect home.  Not even a large group of armed men can deter her from completing her objectives.  She is the definition of a trooper.

Her rough edges and distaste for electronic wizardry make her critics (especially the Gen Xers ) tend to scoff at her old fashioned ways.  I appreciate old souls, but this isn’t going to get any easier for her.

Drake

Drake

A master of words, Drake’s feature sheets are some of the best in the business.  He just knows how to tell a story, and how to make a home sound sexy.  He’s also got connections to some of the best videographers and photographers around, so you can bet the promotional material of your home will be top notch.

No stranger to large contract negotiations, Drake is a naturally smooth operator and usually gets his way.  He seems to appeal to many different kinds of people and many line up just to work with him.

Drake was looking like the clear front runner of this group until he recently allowed an elderly woman to make-out with him.  It looked like a mother bird regurgitating food for their young…except so much more grotesque.  Even with all those acting skills, he still couldn’t hide the sheer horror of that awful decision.  It begs the question…

Justin Bieber

Last and certainly least, the Biebs.  JB is starting at a huge disadvantage for a number of reasons.  For starters, most of his would-be clients aren’t of legal age to buy or sell a home.  And by the time they are, something tells me their tastes may change.

Unfortunately for him, he’s been caught a few times on camera being disrespectful towards neighbours and their homes.  Egg throwing and drag racing aren’t going to score you any points in this industry.

So, who do you think would make the best real estate agent in this group of Canadian celebs?  If you have someone you’d like me to preview on the next round of celebrity Realtors, just drop me a line at: anthony@anthonymalecki.com
